"Survivor of the HORROR of the GREAT WAR, with a mind as OLD AS TIME, Doc Twilight fights a NEVER ENDING BATTLE against the villainy, scum, evil that would destroy our way of life. The insidious goals of his enemies: to DESTROY the very FABRIC OF REALITY!"

 - From Weird Stories, Volume 3, December 1927

Tall, broad shouldered, and gas-masked, Twilight is never seen without his trademarked facial covering or his fedora. He is known to be somewhat of a recluse, and is believed to have a private estate somewhere in the wilds of former German East Africa. He is an expert in the occult, a skilled linguist, a master detective, and a mentalist of frightening capacity. Fu'Xian has on more than one occasion referred to Twilight as "That damned mind mage." Twilight has studied at the feet of Tibetan Lamas, Wahehe Shamen, and distinguished Oxford professors. It is rumored that his considerable detecting abilities were trained with the assistance of a certain retired beekeeper in Sussex.

Doc Twilight is highly regarded as a mentalist, said to be able to tap into the spirit realm and "move the minds of men." In addition, Doc speaks, reads, and writes a number of arcane dialects. It is rumored by past associates that enigmatic hero has one of the largest privately owned libraries in the known world, with a collection to rival even those of Arkham University and the Society of Virtuous Pagans.

An accomplished hand-to-hand fighter, and a skilled marksman, Doc is no mere scholar. While most of his opponents quake in fear of Doc's arcane abilities, the reality is that Doc frequently relies upon mundane methods to deal with his most commonplace enemies, claimiing that the mystic arts should be used as a means of offense or defense only as a last resort. Despite his acumen with traditional weapons and fisticuffs, Twilight  has never been known to take a life; beating them black and blue and leaving permanent injuries are another matter entirely...  Doc's most commonly seen weapon is a specially modified pistol designed to fire non-lethal gasses. It is just about the only firearm that Doc is ever seen in regular posession of, and Doc has expressed a marked distaste for firearms in general.

Twilight arrived in Shanghai late in 1929, though as ever he has been enigmatic if not obstructionist regarding his reasons for being there. In his short time in the city, he has made himself an ally of the Shanghai Municipal Police, and has free reign of much of the International Concession and the greater city itself; the French Concession is decidedly hostile to Twilight, and Pockmarked Huang would like nothing more than to see Twilight expelled from Shanghai all-together. Of course, the Green Gang and the Xian Cabal are less than happy to see another so-called "hero" meddling in Chinese internal affairs, but to their chagrin, he has already managed to gain the trust of many Chinese officials, and his friends have proven difficult, if not impossible, to coherce or buy off.
