"In general," I once read in a review of a major system for Wargaming the Ancient World, "(this wargaming system) manages to take
all the passion, heat, and bloodthirstyness of warfare in the Ancient World, completely do away with that, and come up with a
perfectly tournament-acceptable game."
The said truth is that most of the Ancient rulesets on the market today have managed,
over the course of the last few decades, to successively eradicate all traces of the passion and intrigue of the wars they preported
to represent in favor of creating systems designed for tournament gamers and rules lawyers. Perfectly acceptable for justifying that
trip up to Scotland or over Pennsylvania, perhaps, but not exactly amenable with the spirit of "having a good game."
Warrior
Poets was designed to get away completely from the element based, tournament focused, mindset. Originally designed for 20mm and 25/28mm
Ancients, Warrior Poets dares to tell the tale of ancient warfare based upon the stories of the men (and women) who lived it,
and in doing so, to provide an exciting game that relies partly on history, partly on myth, entirely upon providing the player with
the most exciting engagement possible.
Each volume of the Warrior Poets series includes the use of a modified version of our
"Event Card" system, known as the "Fate Deck", and allows for a player with as few as twenty to thirty figures on a side to have a
fun, exciting game in an evening of miniatures gaming. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then please follow the links to the left
to learn more about the modules of the Warrior Heroes system. Each is a completely contained wargame in and of itself, specific to
its era and place in time.
